Huddersfield to sign Reading midfielder

Huddersfield are poised to sign Reading midfielder Danny Williams on a free transfer when his contract expires next month, reports The Daily Star.

Williams, 28, has spent the four years with Reading after joining from Hoffenheim in 2013 and played an integral part in the club’s route to the Championship play-off finals last season.

Reading were beaten by Huddersfield at Wembley and now the Terriers are set to sign the USA international as David Wagner looks to bolster his squad for the welcome of Premier League football next season.

Wagner’s side are also closing in on deals to retain the services of Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy and Chelsea youngster Izzy Brown, while they have also had a bid for Derby forward Tom Ince rejected.

Williams can play right the way through the middle of midfield but is mainly used as a destroyer, happy to take the brunt of the defensive duties and breaking up opposition attacks.

Only two outfielders clocked up more minutes on the pitch for Reading last season than Williams (3642) and Jaap Stam’s side will feel his absence next season.
