Barcelona eye shock move for ex-Stoke midfielder

Barcelona are weighing up a shock move to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven N’Zonzi as cover for Sergio Busquets, reports Mundo Deportivo.

N’Zonzi, 27, has been linked with a return to the Premier League since the end of last season, with Everton and Leicester both interested in the midfielder.

However, both could be set to be gazumped for his services with Barcelona now understood to hold an interest in the midfielder, as Luis Enrique seeks cover for Busquets.

The trend of late has been Stoke signing Barcelona players (Bojan and Ibrahim Afellay), however that could now be reversed should Barcelona step up their interest in the Frenchman.

N’Zonzi spent three years at Stoke before joining Sevilla in 2015 and has developed into a key part of the team, although a release clause of €30m (£26.7m) could leave the three-time reigning Europa League champions powerless in keeping him at the club.

Only Javier Mascherano (78.7) and Koke (77.1) are averaging more passes per game in La Liga this season than N’Zonzi (75.3).
