Chelsea ponder move for England left-back

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard is interested in signing Leicester left-back Ben Chilwell when the club’s transfer ban is lifted, claims The Sun.

The west London outfit are planning for the future despite the fact they currently cannot sign new players until the end of the season.

Chelsea were slapped with a FIFA-imposed transfer ban at the end of last season but have still been linked with moves for the likes of Wilfried Zaha and Nathan Ake.

It has now emerged Lampard has been monitoring Chilwell’s progress at Leicester and is interested in bringing the £70m-rated left-back to Stamford Bridge.

Neither Emerson nor Marcos Alonso are thought to be long-term solutions at left-back for Lampard and the latter was linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola wanted to sign Chilwell before Oleksandr Zinchenko proved a capable deputy for Benjamin Mendy at the end of last season.

The 22-year-old has been Leicester’s first-choice left-back for the past three seasons and is now considered a recognised option for the England national team.

In fact, only Wilfred Ndidi (3389) featured in more minutes than Chilwell (3330) of all Leicester outfielders in the Premier League last season.
