Manchester City plot €60m bid for Benfica wonderkid

Manchester City are pondering a blockbuster summer move for Benfica teenager Florentino Luis, reports The Guardian.

Pep Guardiola wants to sign Fernandinho’s long-term replacement at the end of the season after missing out on Jorginho and Fred in the last 12 months.

Luis has only made seven league appearances for Benfica but his early displays have shown plenty of promise and attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly already had a bid turned down for the 19-year-old and City are now weighing up a move for the Portugal Under-20 international.

Luis’ current Benfica deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2023 and a €60m (£51.92m) price tag has been mooted.

Benfica are set to make an enormous profit at the end of the season with a number of high profile clubs, including City, understood to be keen on another of their teenage wonderkids.

Joao Felix has enjoyed a breathtaking campaign for the Portuguese giants and is now being touted for a £100m move in the summer.

The 19-year-old has remarkably played a direct hand in 20 goals in 22 league appearances this season and looks set to follow Luis out of the club sooner rather than later.

Luis has scored one goal in seven league appearances this season but his job is to break up play and keep possession flowing for Benfica, which he does superbly.

The teenage midfielder averages 3.9 tackles and 3.3 interceptions per league game and his pass success rate is a hugely impressive 91.3%.
