Edinson Cavani signs new Paris Saint-Germain deal

Paris Saint-Germain have announced Edinson Cavani has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year deal keeping him at the club until 2020.

Cavani, 30, has been locked in contract negotiations with the reigning Ligue 1 giants for months now after enjoying his best ever goalscoring campaign with the club.

The Uruguay international has really flourished since being moved centrally in the wake of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure last summer and PSG have been keen to secure his services for the best remaining years of his career.

“I’m very happy, just as would be every player who has the opportunity to extend their contract with a team of the standing of Paris Saint-Germain,” Cavani told the club’s official website.

“I’m happy to be able to continue my career here in Paris. Now, I want only one thing: to keep on winning and giving the best of myself to achieve the important goals set by the club.”

The former Napoli striker was the first player to reach 30 goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season and he is almost averaging a goal every game in Ligue 1.

Cavani has scored 31 goals in 32 league appearances this season, at least seven more than any other player in Ligue 1 and level with Lionel Messi in Europe’s big leagues.
