Manchester City will consider selling Raheem Sterling next summer if they fail to agree terms on a new long-term deal before then, reports The Daily Mirror.
Pep Guardiola’s side were hopeful of sorting Sterling’s future before the end of last season but the England international shelved talks until after the 2018 World Cup.
Sterling hoped to strengthen his bargaining hand with a strong showing in Russia but that backfired on the 23-year-old after coming in for criticism for his performances.
City romped to the Premier League title last season and Sterling played an integral role in their league and cup double, finishing the campaign with his best ever goalscoring haul.
Sterling’s current £170,000-a-week contract is due to expire until 2020 and City will wait for their No.7 to restart negotiations before rekindling talks.
The Premier League champions have made it clear none of their star players will be allowed to run down their contracts and leave for nothing.
It means that City are prepared to sell Sterling next summer if no agreement has been reached before then.
Sterling played a direct hand in 29 goals in 33 league appearances last season (18 goals, 11 assists), 15 more than his previous best in a single campaign.
