Pep Guardiola has agreed terms to a new £20m-a-year deal until 2021 but will only put pen to paper after winning his first piece of silverware at the club, reports The Daily Mail.
The Spaniard’s current £17m-a-year deal is due to expire at the end of next season but City want him to create a dynasty at the club following this season’s stunning success.
City are currently 16 points clear in the Premier League and could seal the title at home to Manchester United at the start of April, while they are also among the favourites to win the Champions League.
Guardiola’s first season in charge of City was a relative disappointment but the 47-year-old will have the chance to get his hands on his first piece of silverware at the club when his side take on Arsenal in Sunday’s Carabao Cup final.
Guardiola has a tremendous record in major finals, winning six of his previous seven at an aggregate scoreline of 14-3.
City are favourites against Arsenal and Guardiola wants to win a piece of silverware first before the club officially announces his new deal.
