Liverpool have announced Jordan Henderson has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal.
Henderson’s previous deal was due to expire in 2020 but Jurgen Klopp’s side have sanctioned a new contract for their skipper.
Liverpool overhauled their midfield options during the summer and there were suggestions Henderson would be eased out.
However, Henderson is a favourite of Klopp’s and the 28-year-old is delighted to extend his stay at Anfield.
“I’m very happy to have signed a new contract for a long period of time,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m absolutely delighted.
“It doesn’t seem like too long ago when I signed my first one – it feels like yesterday, really – but a lot has happened since then.
“I feel it’s been a progressive journey for me throughout my time here and one I’ve enjoyed so much.
“There is no other place in the world I would rather play football. I want to be here for as long as I can be.
“I’m so privileged to have been a part of this club for so long, and hopefully even longer now.”
Fabinho’s arrival, in particular, was seen as threatening to Henderson’s place in the team.
However, the Brazil international is yet to even make his debut for Liverpool after struggling to adapt to Klopp’s way of playing.
Since the start of last season, only two English players have attempted more passes than Henderson in the Premier League (2224).
