Handanovic set for Inter extension

Inter are set to hand goalkeeper Samir Handanovic a new contract extension, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 31-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his current deal and had been linked with a move away after failing to agree terms with Inter.

However, reports have now emerged suggesting there has been a successful breakthrough in negotiations with Handanovic set to put pen to paper on a new deal until 2019.

As part of the deal, the former Udiense shot stopper will see his wages raise from €2m (£1.5m) to €2.5m (£1.83m).

Handanovic has been Inter’s No1 ‘keeper since he joined the club in 2012 and since then only Gianluigi Buffon (52) and Morgan De Sanctis (51) have kept more clean sheets in Serie A than Handanovic (36).

Additionally, no man between the sticks has saved more penalties than the Slovenia international in that time (7).
