Manchester United winger set for bumper new deal

Manchester United are set to reward Daniel James with improved terms worth £50,000-a-week, claims The Sun.

James only joined United from Championship side Swansea last summer and has already established himself as a first-team regular for the Red Devils.

The Wales international was signed as a squad player but immediately caught the eye with a series of impressive displays at the start of the season.

James scored on his United debut in their 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening day of the season and has been particularly effective with Marcus Rashford on the counter attack.

James has combined to assist four of Rashford's Premier League goals this season, a yield bettered only by Adama Traore to Raul Jimenez (5) and Kevin De Bruyne to Sergio Aguero (6).

The 22-year-old has struggled over the last few months, however, and looks like he would benefit from a well-earned break.

James has gone from playing at most twice a week in the Championship to competiting in four competitions in the space of 12 months and it has shown in a dip in his recent performances.

Nevertheless, United plan to offer James fresh terms to reflect his growing status at the club despite the fact he has more than four years left to run on his current £35,000-a-week contract.

United may also feel it is right to improve his contract in the wake of Tahith Chong snubbing Inter to sign a new deal with the club on the same terms as James.

Chong is highly rated by United and other clubs across Europe but the 20-year-old is yet to start a Premier League match this season, compared to James who has started 25.

Since scoring three goals in his first four league starts for United, James is without a goal in each of his last 23 apperances in the competition. He has registered six assists in that time, however.
