Manolo Gabbiadini’s misery at Southampton is close to ending with the striker on the verge of securing a move back to Italy with Sampdoria, claims The Guardian.
Gabbiadini made an impressive start to life at Southampton following his £14m move from Napoli at the start of 2017 and almost fired the club to League Cup glory shortly after arriving.
The 27-year-old quickly lost his form after netting twice against Manchester United at Wembley and has fallen completely out of favour over the last month under new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.
The former Italy international came on as a substitute in Hasenhuttl’s first game in charge of Southampton but has not even made the matchday squad in the subsequent six matches.
Gabbiadini is now scheduled to undergo his Sampdoria medical on Friday before finalising a deal to re-sign for one of his former clubs.
Of Southampton players that have started more than one Premier League match this season, Gabbiadini has the lowest WhoScored rating (6.25). He finishes his spell at Southampton with just 10 goals in 51 league appearances.
