Chelsea hold nerve to move top of the table

Chelsea will end a gameweek top of the Premier League table for the first time since their 2014/15 title win after they held out to defeat Middlesbrough 1-0.

Diego Costa’s goal on the stroke of half time, his 10th of the season as he capitalised on some slack Middlesbrough defending, was enough to earn Chelsea their sixth successive league win and clean sheet.

The Blues have emerged as one of the title favourites in recent weeks, with Antonio Conte’s decision to switch to a three-man defence reaping the rewards.

It’s now been just short of 600 minutes since an opponent found a way past Thibaut Courtois between the sticks as Conte looks to end a debut season in England with a title win.

He’s rejuvenated key players for the west London side, with Eden Hazard earning his sixth WhoScored man of the match award at the Riverside Stadium in Sunday’s only Premier League fixture.

The Belgian completed seven dribbles and made six key passes in the victory and looks to be in his best form as Chelsea continue to impress under Conte.
