Borussia Dortmund have announced they have sacked Peter Bosz as head coach and replaced him with former Cologne manager Peter Stoger.
Bosz was only appointed Dortmund boss over the summer after guiding Ajax to last season’s Europa League final with a young, vibrant side.
However, Dortmund crashed out of the Champions League during the group stages with just two points from six matches and are already 13 points adrift of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
A miserable run of one win from Dortmund’s last 13 matches has cost Bosz his job at the club and the Bundesliga giants have already appointed Stoger, who was sacked by Cologne last week.
“Last night, in a conversation with Peter Bosz, we decided that we would release him with immediate effect,” said Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke.
“We parted on the best of terms and on behalf of all Borussia I would like to thank Peter Bosz. We still consider him a great coach and person.”
Stoger’s appointment may divide opinion as he left Cologne bottom of the Bundesliga and without a win in 14 matches.
However, the 51-year-old did guide them to fifth place last season and a spot in this season’s Europa League.
