Aston Villa’s new owners block Grealish’s move to Tottenham
Tottenham have paid the ultimate price in their attempts to drive down Jack Grealish’s price and have now missed out on the talented Aston Villa midfielder, claims The Daily Mirror.
Grealish has been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham all summer and the north London outfit were hopeful of securing the England Under-21 international on the cheap.
Villa were in financial turmoil and desperately needed to raise in the region of £40m to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations prior to fresh investment last week.
Tottenham were hopeful of landing Grealish for half of their’s £40m valuation but now Villa’s new investors have ruled out the 22-year-old’s departure on the eve of the new season.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are yet to make a signing this summer and news of missing out on Grealish will now appease their manager.
The Argentine wanted Grealish signed before they flew out to America for their pre-season tour but Daniel Levy’s haggling has cost them dearly.
Grealish emerged as one of the best players in the Championship last season and news he will stay at the club is a huge boost for an under-pressure Bruce.
Villa’s wealthy new owners opted against a sensational move to appoint Thierry Henry as new head coach, instead retaining Bruce for the new campaign.
Of those that made at least 10 appearances in the Championship last season, Grealish was fouled more times per 90 than any other player (3.9).
