Watford eye audacious play for one of Portugal’s Euro 2016 winners
Watford are interested making an audacious swoop for Sporting goalkeeper and Portugal’s No.1 goalkeeper Rui Patricio, according to the Watford Observer.
The 29-year-old played in every minute of Portugal’s stunning Euro 2016 triumph and has even been linked with a move to Manchester City throughout the season as Pep Guardiola looks to find a replacement for Claudio Bravo.
Watford manager Walter Mazzarri is reportedly looking to sign a new long-term goalkeeper in the summer after current No.1 Heurelho Gomes turned 36 last month.
Mazzarri doesn’t appear to fancy his understudy, Costel Pantillimon, and the fact that Gomes has already suffered two injuries in matches this season has caused concern for the Watford manager.
Patricio cast doubt over his future at Sporting after revealing he is unsure whether he’d like to finish his career with his boyhood club and Watford have sent scouts to watch the Portuguese goalkeeper in action with a view to making a summer move.
Only Iker Casillas (14) and Ederson (10) have kept more clean sheets in the Portuguese Liga NOS this season than Patricio (9).
