Chelsea still chasing Kessie signature

Chelsea are still in talks with Serie A side Atalanta over the possible signing of Franck Kessie, reports The Guardian.

Antonio Conte is keen to re-invest the £52m they made from the sale of Oscar to China by strengthening his squad to maintain their title challenge.

The Chelsea boss is a big fan of Kessie, who has emerged as one of the stars of Serie A this season with surprise package Atalanta.

However, the current Premier League leaders may have to wait until the summer before they can conclude a deal for the Ivory Coast international, who has been included in his country’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.

Atalanta are understandably keen to keep hold of one of their best players until the end of the summer at the very earliest and are hoping to fetch at least £30m for his signature if they cannot keep hold of the midfielder.

Kessie has previously been dubbed the ‘next Yaya Toure’ and he has played an influential role from midfield for the Nerazzurro.

The 20-year-old has scored more goals than any other midfielder in Serie A this season (6).
