Chelsea target Donnarumma open to AC Milan stay

Gianluigi Donnarumma will entertain fresh AC Milan contract talks but only if he is not asked to take a paycut, claims The Daily Mail.

Donnarumma has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, as Frank Lampard evaluates Kepa's position as the club's No.1 goalkeeper.

The Italy international has been dubbed Gianluigi Buffon's long-term successor for the national team after his blistering start to professional football at the age of 16.

Donnarumma has only racked up 166 Serie A appearances and only turned 21 in February.

The Milan starlet has been heavily linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe over the last five years but could prolong his future at his boyhood club.

Milan are reportedly keen to introduce a salary cap in the wake of the devastating financial impact of COVID-19 but Donnarumma is not keen on accepting a permanent pay-cut.

Donnarumma is also keen to experience Champions League football and is concerned Milan are still a long way from returning to Europe's elite competition.

Since making his first Serie A start towards the end of October 2015, only Inter's Samir Handanovic (60) has kept more clean sheets than Donnarumma (54) in the competition.
