Chelsea’s move for Barkley collapses

Ross Barkley has changed his mind about moving to Chelsea and returned to Everton, claims The Guardian.

Chelsea agreed a £30m deal with Everton for the England international and Barkley even completed his medical with the reigning Premier League champions.

However, Barkley had reservations about moving to Stamford Bridge and has now pulled the plug on the deal to provide Antonio Conte’s side with another blow in the transfer window.

It means that Chelsea have now missed out on signing Romelu Lukaku, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Fernando Llorente and Barkley this summer when it appeared all four deals were formalities for the club.

Barkley now looks set to see out the final 12 months of his existing Everton deal unless a deal can be revived in January. In the last three Premier League campaigns, no Everton player has provided more assists than Barkley (16).
