Manchester United to launch January move for Serie A striker
Manchester United intend to sign Mario Mandzukic after missing out on the Juventus striker in the summer, claims Sky Sports.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to sign Mandzukic before the start of the season after sanctioning Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez’s moves to Inter.
United are struggling to score at the moment and Solskjaer has already confirmed his priority is to sign a new striker.
The Red Devils have managed to score more than once in a game in just three of their last 20 matches in all competitions.
Marcus Rashford has struggled to deliver as United’s main striker, while Anthony Martial has missed the club’s last five matches through injury.
Solskjaer has been forced to use 17-year-old Mason Greenwood more often than he may have liked so early in the season, though the highly rated teen has scored in each of his last two appearances.
United are already 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool, albeit with a game less played.
Mandzukic is free to leave Juventus in January after tumbling down the pecking order under new manager Maurizio Sarri.
Gonzalo Higuain’s return to the club has pushed Mandzukic to the fringes and United are aiming to complete a £9m deal for the veteran once the transfer window re-opens.
Mandzukic developed into an important player for Juventus last season but has not even made a single appearance for the club under Sarri.
Last season the former Croatia international played a direct hand in 15 goals in 25 Serie A appearances (nine goals, six assists).
