Juventus confirm they will terminate Dani Alves’ contract
Juventus director Beppe Marotta has confirmed they will terminate Dani Alves’ contract by mutual consent with the veteran right-back now expected to join Manchester City.
Alves only joined Juventus last summer and established himself as an integral part of their European run to the Champions League final last season but now the Brazil international has made it clear he wants a new experience.
The 34-year-old has emerged as a top transfer target for City this summer as Pep Guardiola seeks a reunion with the former Barcelona defender at the Etihad, and there had been suggestions the Premier League outfit would strike a £5m deal with Juventus.
However, Marotta has confirmed the club will terminate his contract and therefore allow City to sign Alves on a free transfer when the registration window officially opens at the start of July.
“It’s not a breakdown of our rapport, as motivation is fundamental for a player,” the Juventus chief told Mediaset Premium, via Football Italia.
“Dani Alves told us he wants to try an alternative experience, so we will terminate the contract by mutual consent and wish him all the best.
“Of course there is disappointment at what he said, but we confirm there was no split.”
Alves started the season slowly at Juventus and missed a chunk of the campaign after breaking his leg, but his importance went without question by the end of his time at the J Stadium.
In the knockout phase of the Champions League last season only Cristiano Ronaldo (11) and Kylian Mbappe (6) played a direct hand in more goals than Alves (4), who finished in the WhoScored Team of the Season in Europe’s top competition (7.75 rating).
