Tottenham cool interest in Everton ace

Tottenham have cooled their interest in Everton star Ross Barkley, leaving the England international in limbo, according to the Daily Mirror.

Barkley has been the subject of intense speculation over his future in recent months as the 23-year-old considers his next move in his career.

Spurs had been heavily linked with a move for the Toffees star this summer, though Everton’s decision to set a £50m asking price looked to have deterred the north London side.

And now Spurs appear to have withdrawn from the race to sign Barkley, leaving the youngster short of attractive offers in his bid to leave Goodison Park.

Barkley has a little over a year left to run on his current deal for the Toffees and runs the risk of being frozen out by manager Ronald Koeman, particularly on the back of the signing of Davy Klaassen, as he opts against extending his stay on Merseyside.

Spurs have reservations over Barkley’s development, however, with the English attacker struggling to build upon his immense potential after his breakthrough season in 2013/14.

Mauricio Pochettino is also well stocked in creative options in the final third, with the Argentine able to call on Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and - once he returns from injury - Erik Lamela.
