Arsenal plot shock move for Burnley ace

Arsenal will move to sign Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope when Petr Cech retires at the end of the season, claims The Sun.

The Gunners will need to sign a new shot-stopper in the summer as competition for Bernd Leno after Cech last month announced his plans to retire at the end of the current campaign.

Unai Emery’s side have been linked with a move for Sampdoria goalkeeper Emil Audero this season but it has now emerged the Gunners want to sign Pope.

The 26-year-old has been a revelation for Burnley since the start of last season but is yet to feature in the Premier League this season after dislocating his shoulder last July.

Pope is back at full fitness but Tom Heaton’s immense performance have kept the England goalkeeper on the bench.

With Joe Hart also at the club, Pope may have to leave Turf Moor at the end of the season to get regular playing time.

Of goalkeepers to have made at least 10 Premier League appearances since the beginning of last season, only Alisson (80.3%) and David De Gea (76.8%) have better save success rates than Pope (75%).
