No offers made for Chelsea target, insists manager

Leicester manager Claude Puel insists the club have not received any offers for goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

Chelsea are close to selling Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid this summer and Schmeichel has emerged as a potential replacement for the Belgium international.

Maurizio Sarri’s side must first sort out a replacement before Courtois can join Madrid and a move to re-sign Petr Cech from Arsenal has also been mooted.

Schmeichel enjoyed a thoroughly impressive 2018 World Cup campaign but Puel has revealed Leicester have not received any offers for him so far this summer.

“I am not troubled about this,” Sky Sports quote Puel as saying. “Of course Kasper is a very important player for us. He had a very strong World Cup.

“We need Kasper, with his character, his performance and his consistency. No [we have not received any offers]. There is no problem with this. There is a lot of speculation at this moment, it is normal.”

Danny Ward’s £12.5m arrival from Liverpool has only strengthened the feeling Schmeichel will be free to leave if the right offer comes in.

However, Leicester are adamant that Ward has been signed to compete with Schmeichel and not replaced the Denmark international.

In the last three Premier League campaigns, no goalkeeper outside of the established ‘top six’ has kept more clean sheets than Schmeichel (31).
