Manchester City are ready to pay £39m to sign injured Athletic Club defender Aymeric Laporte, according to The Guardian.
Pep Guardiola’s side only announced the £21m signing of Ilkay Gundogan on Thursday morning but are already thinking about their next signing.
City have been heavily linked with a move for Laporte but a broken leg towards the end of the season appeared to end their pursuit of the highly rated central defender.
However, even though they have already signed Gundogan who has a dislocated knee, City are ready to match Laporte’s £39m release clause and are understood to be preparing a contract offer for the 22-year-old.
Only three players completed more interceptions in the Europa League last season than Laporte (38).
