Bayern Munich eye January move for Germany international

Bayern Munich will sign a new goalkeeper in January as Manuel Neuer’s injury woes continue, report Bild.

Neuer has been sidelined since September and Bayern do not want to rush the 31-year-old back from a broken foot next year.

Reserve goalkeeper Sven Ulreich is also struggling with injury at the moment, which has forced Bayern to coax 36-year-old Tom Starke back into the first-team set up.

Bayern hold a healthy eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga but their goalkeeping position could be a point of weakness in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

As a result, a January move for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno has reportedly been explored.

The 25-year-old has spent the last six years with Leverkusen and also acts as Neuer’s understudy for the German national squad.

In the last three Bundesliga campaigns, only Oliver Baumann has committed as many errors that have led to goal than Leno (8).
