Liverpool not in the market for Stoke goalkeeper

Liverpool will not be signing Jack Butland from Stoke ahead of next week's domestic transfer deadline, reports The Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Potters shotstopper as Jurgen Klopp ponders a move to replace Adrian as the club's number two.

The Spaniard was at fault for Aston Villa's opener last weekend and ended up conceding seven of the 11 shots on target Villa mustered in their 7-2 win over Liverpool.

With Premier League clubs allowed to sign EFL players until October 16th, Butland was a rumoured target to replace Adrian at Anfield in the absence of Alisson.

However, Liverpool are not expected to make a move for Butland in the coming days as cover for Alisson.

Rather, Klopp will place his faith in Adrian with youngster Caoimhin Kelleher serving as the 33-year-old's backup until the Reds number one is fit again.

That is unlikely to be in time for the Merseyside Derby next weekend as Liverpool look to bounce back from their defeat at Villa Park.

That will be easier said than done with Everton making a stunning start to the season, winning their opening four league matches so far as the Toffees top the Premier League table.
