European giant enters race for Manchester United target

Manchester United and Chelsea face competition from Bayern Munich in their pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, claims The Daily Express.

Ramsey has entered the final 12 months of his existing Arsenal contract and the Gunners have already informed the Welshman he can leave for nothing next summer.

The 27-year-old will be free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides from January and Bayern are keen to speak to the Arsenal ace.

Jose Mourinho wants to bring Ramsey to Old Trafford but Bayern’s unexpected interest will prove a huge obstacle for United to overcome.

Chelsea are also in the race for Ramsey’s signature but the recent form of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek may force them to reconsider.

Ramsey has only started six Premier League matches this season and came off the bench in the second half of Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Since the start of last season only Alexandre Lacazette (25) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (22) have scored or assisted more Premier League goals than Ramsey (19) for Arsenal.
