Manchester United set to make January move for Arsenal midfielder
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will step up his interest in Mesut Ozil in January when the Arsenal midfielder will enter the final six months of his existing deal, reports The Independent.
Ozil failed to secure a move away from Arsenal over the summer and there has been no progress made about a renewal as the Gunners continue to refuse to match his wage demands.
A knee injury has limited Ozil to four Premier League starts this season, while he was also left out of the Germany squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.
Ozil’s future looks increasingly away from the Emirates and Jose Mourinho is hopeful of reuniting with the Germany international at the end of the season.
The duo formed a close relationship during their time at Real Madrid and have reportedly even kept in touch since both moved on to pastures new, while the United manager is also interested in signing Ozil’s Arsenal team-mate, Alexis Sanchez.
Since joining Arsenal in August 2013, Ozil has registered more assists than any other Premier League player (42).
