West Brom eye January move for United outcast

West Brom manager Tony Pulis wants to strengthen his side in the January transfer window to consolidate the club’s place in the top half of the Premier League table, reports The Daily Telegraph.

The Baggies progress has flown under the radar so far this season but their 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday lifted West Brom to sixth in the table and only one point behind Manchester United.

Pulis side, who has sensationally scored more goals than United in the league this season (20 to United’s 19), are due to host Jose Mourinho’s side before Christmas and the Baggies manager could use his close relationship with Mourinho to try and sign Morgan Schneiderlin in January.

The former Southampton midfielder has struggled to have any impact at United since joining for £25m in 2015 and has completely fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season.

Schneiderlin has even dropped below Bastian Schweinsteiger in the pecking order for a place in United’s midfield in recent weeks and looks set for a move away from Old Trafford in January, with West Brom keen to secure his services.

West Brom already have a good history with United having signed Darren Fletcher and Jonny Evans in the past, although a deal to sign Schneiderlin would be significantly more expensive given his wages.

Despite failing to win a regular starting berth, United have actually fared far better when the Frenchman has started in the Premier League (56%) compared to when he has not been selected in the starting XI (37%).
