Paris Saint-Germain ace tells Mourinho he wants Manchester United move
Paris Saint-Germain right-back Serge Aurier has told Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho he wants to move to the Premier League giants in the summer, reports L’Equipe.
Mourinho has earmarked the signing of Aurier as the ideal long-term replacement for current right-back Antonio Valencia, who signed a new two-year deal in December.
Valencia has arguably been United’s best player this season after being transformed from a unconvincing right-back to one of the league’s best defenders by Mourinho but the Ecuador international will be 32 by the time next season starts.
The former Wigan Athletic winger was only converted into a right-back due to a lack of options in that position and Mourinho is understandably looking to add competition and eventually a long-term replacement for Valencia, with Aurier at the top of his list.
Aurier, 24, has dropped down the pecking order at PSG this season following the emergence of Thomas Meunier and has reached an agreement in principle with Mourinho that he will join United in the summer, with a deal expected to be thrashed out in the region of €20m (£16.7m).
The Ivory Coast international, who has similar qualities to Valencia, has landed himself in hot water on a number of occasions and was even caught on camera making derogatory comments about former PSG manager Laurent Blanc and current United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Despite Unai Emery favouring Meunier over Aurier this season, the Ivorian has still started 18 Ligue 1 games this season and has registered three assists in that time from defence.
