Manchester United target focused on Benfica

Benfica defender Victor Lindelof insists he is fully focused on Benfica amid reports Manchester United have won the race to sign the promising centre-back.

United were heavily linked with a move for the Sweden international in the build up to the January transfer window before Jose Mourinho had a change of heart, but reports emerged from Portugal earlier this week claiming the United boss had finally got his man.

The Premier League giants were alleged to have shelled out in the region of £35m for Lindelof, who signed a new in March in the aftermath of his failed move to Old Trafford, but the 22-year-old defender has broken his silence to clarify his position on any proposed move.

“There are rumours that there is always, at all times,” he told VLT, via Manchester Evening News. “I will say the same thing I always do, I have a contract with Benfica.

“I have played there for five years and really enjoy myself. I’m still young and I feel I’m developing all of the time, football down there gives me a lot.”

Lindelof was a pillar of consistency for a Benfica side that retained their Liga NOS title for a fourth season in succession.

In fact, Lindelof completed more passes in his own half of the pitch than any other player in the division (1168).
