Resurgent John Stones poised for England recall

England manager Gareth Southgate has taken note of John Stones' impressive return to form and plans to recall the Manchester City centre-back, claims The Daily Mirror.

Stones' resurgence has been one of the surprise points of the 2020/21 campaign, with the 26-year-old now first-choice alongside Ruben Dias at City.

The City defender has even leapfrogged Aymeric Laporte in the pecking order for places at the Etihad and is now firmly back in Southgate's thoughts ahead of Euro 2020.

Stones hasn't featured for England since the end of 2019 but Southgate is planning to recall the ball-playing centre-back for their next batch of matches in preparation for this summer's major tournament.

With Joe Gomez set to miss Euro 2020 through injury, Stones' return to form is timely given England's lack of natural ball-playing options at centre-back.

In fact, Stones has the best pass success rate of any player in the Premier League this season of those to have started at least five games (93.4%).
