United willing to spend over £60m on Madrid star

Manchester United are willing to set a new club transfer record to land Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to The Sun.

Rodriguez, 24, has been regularly linked with a move away from the Spanish giants this season and his availability would spark the interest from all of the big Premier League club’s.

The Colombia international was reportedly looking for a way out of the club when Rafa Benitez was in charge, although it remains to be seen whether his feelings have changed with new manager Zinedine Zidane.

There is also the fact Madrid have since been hit with a transfer embargo for the next two windows, which would make it seem very unlikely they would be willing to part ways with any players until the summer of 2017.

However, United are suggested to still be keen on the former Monaco midfielder and are even prepared to pay more than the £63m it cost Madrid to land the midfielder after the 2014 World Cup.

Since joining Madrid, no player to have made at least five league appearances requires fewer minute per key pass than Rodriguez in La Liga (every 27 mins).
