Di Maria hopeful PSG can sign his international compatriot
Paris Saint-Germain winger Angel di Maria is hopeful that the club can tempt Barcelona forward Lionel Messi to the Ligue 1 champions.
Di Maria, 27, has been in sparkling form since making the switch from Manchester United over the summer and already has one eye on future signings.
PSG have long been linked with a move for Di Maria’s former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Argentina international hopes the club can actually lure international compatriot to the Parc des Princes.
“I hope PSG can bring Messi to Paris one day,” Di Maria is quoted as saying by Sky Sports. “Everything is possible. It is all about money. It would take a lot of money to sign a player like him.
“But it would be great for Ligue 1 and French football in general if Messi joined PSG. The club has the resources to sign him and he could come to Paris.”
Messi, 28, has only recently put his injury woes behind him, but he is quickly rediscovering his best form. In fact, only his Barcelona teammate Neymar (8.78) has garnered a higher WhoScored rating than Messi (8.41) so far this season across Europe’s top five leagues.
