Lescott set to leave West Brom

West Bromwich Albion defender Joleon Lescott has been told he is free to leave as soon as the club bring in a replacement, according to Sky Sports News.

Aston Villa are frontrunners to sign the former England international, having already had a bid in the region of £1m rejected earlier in the summer.

Lescott, 33, joined West Brom as a free agent following his release from Manchester City last summer, but hasn’t featured since the club’s opening weekend 3-0 defeat.

Federico Fazio was expected to join the club before talks broke down and it has now emerged that West Brom are interested in signing Manchester United outcast Jonny Evans.
