Chelsea defender David Luiz has revealed his dream is to return to Benfica and help restore the club as a giant of European football.
Luiz spent four years at Benfica before earning his first move to Chelsea in 2011 and the Brazil international is now back at Stamford Bridge after returning to the club on deadline day in the summer.
Chelsea’s decision to re-sign the charismatic defender was ridiculed at the time but Luiz has since silenced those critics and has arguably been one of the best defenders in the Premier League this season.
While Antonio Conte has no reason to part ways with the former PSG defender, Luiz has revealed his dream is to return to Benfica and lead the Portuguese giants to European glory.
“My dream is to return to Benfica and become European champions with them,” Luiz told Portuguese outlet Record. “I don’t know whether it will be as a coach or a player, but I want to go back there.”
“One of the most difficult days of my career was the Europa League final win over Benfica. It hurt a lot seeing my friends upset.”
Of all centre backs in the Premier League this season only Harry Maguire (25) has attempted more shots than Luiz (21).
