United could raid Saints for second left-back

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, reports the Daily Star.

United are in the market for a new left-back after Luke Shaw sustained a season ending leg break against PSV Eindhoven back in September, while Ashley Young is expected to miss the rest of the campaign following groin surgery.

Ricardo Rodriguez has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford, but manager Louis van Gaal could turn his attention to the south coast if he wishes to add a Premier League experienced defender to his squad.

Bertrand, 26, has established himself as Saints' first choice left-back following Shaw's move to United, while the former Chelsea defender's form has earned him a recall to the England squad.

Saints, though, would be reluctant to allow Bertrand to leave on the cheap, with it believed the club will hold out for bid of upwards of £20m for the Englishman.
