Borussia Dortmund block Weigl's move to Paris Saint-Germain

Julian Weigl has revealed he spoke to Borussia Dortmund about joining Paris Saint-Germain this month but the German side ruled out his departure.

The Germany international is one of many midfielders PSG have targeted this month, as Thomas Tuchel desperately looks to strengthen a problem position in his squad.

Tuchel worked with Weigl during his stint as Dortmund head coach and was keen on reuniting with the 23-year-old at the Parc des Princes.

Weigl has even admitted he gave thought to the idea of joining PSG this month but accepts Dortmund have no interest in selling.

“When PSG showed an interest, I was considering my future ahead of the second half of the season,” Weigl told SportBild.

“I wanted to improve my sporting situation, and it is no secret that I enjoyed working under Thomas Tuchel. I shared these thoughts with Dortmund.

“However, I had to accept that the Dortmund officials did not want to let me go. Now my goal is to succeed with Dortmund and I feel much better than I did earlier in the season.”

Weigl has dropped completely out of favour at Dortmund this season, usurped in the pecking order for places by summer signings Thomas Delaney and Axel Witsel.

The Dortmund prospect, who has previously been linked with a Premier League move, has only made six league appearances this season.

Of Dortmund players that have made more than five league starts this season, only Witsel (93.4%) has a better pass success rate than Weigl (92.1%).
