Atletico Madrid are refusing to give up on number one target Diego Costa, reports the Daily Mirror.
The Spain international has been strongly linked with a return to the La Liga giants, two years after departing the Calderon for Chelsea.
Recently appointed Blues boss Antonio Conte has regularly stated his intention to retain the 27-year-old’s services, despite the arrival of youngster Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.
Costa insists he won’t force a move away from the west London side, but is very much hopeful of a return to Madrid this summer.
Chelsea could allow Costa to return to Atletico, provided they can land striking target Alvaro Morata from neighbours Real Madrid.
The Spain international recently returned to the Bernabeu following a two-year spell at Juventus with Real Madrid eager to keep the 23-year-old in Madrid.
Chelsea are believed to have already failed with two bids for Morata this summer and are willing to bide their time in their pursuit of the Spaniard.
Should they land their top striking target, chances are Chelsea would allow Costa to return to Atletico before the transfer window slams shut.
