Arsenal and Chelsea tracking Manchester United fringe player

Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring Luke Shaw’s Manchester United future, reports The Daily Mail.

Shaw has endured a nightmare time at Old Trafford since completing a £27m move from Southampton in 2014.

Things have gone even worse for Shaw since Jose Mourinho was appointed manager over 18 months ago and his long-term future at the club is still uncertain.

Shaw’s current deal is not due to expire until the end of next season after United triggered their right to an extra 12 months earlier this year.

The 22-year-old has featured more prominently for United since Christmas and Mourinho has even since revealed the club will hand the England international a new long-term deal.

However, no talks have been forthcoming and Shaw is still unsure whether he has a future at Old Trafford beyond the end of the current campaign.

Chelsea and Arsenal are both monitoring Shaw’s future with a view to making a move for the left-back.

United’s defence has been heavily criticised in recent matches after individual mistakes have gifted their opponents goals on numerous occasions and their defensive record is far more impressive with Shaw in the team.

In fact, United have not conceded in Shaw’s last 593 minutes of action on the pitch, keeping clean sheets in each of his last six starts.
