Newcastle and Wolves consider summer move for former Chelsea flop

Newcastle and Wolves are pondering a summer move for former Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain, reports The Sunday Express.

Higuain endured a disappointing six-month loan spell with Chelsea during the second half of Maurizio Sarri's Stamford Bridge stint, netting just five goals in 14 league appearances.

Sarri took over as Juventus boss last summer and was prepared to hand the Argentine another chance to impress for the Old Lady, but Higuain has struggled, scoring just five league goals for the Serie A champions this season.

However, both Newcastle and Wolves are prepared to hand Higuain a second chance to impress in the Premier League with Juventus keen to offload the 32-year-old.

The Magpies are looking to make a statement signing once their Saudi-led takeover is complete, while Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is eager to sign another striker to ease the pressure on Raul Jimenez.

Higuain is also weighing up a return to Argentina, with former side River Plate a possible destination for the experienced forward.
