Leicester defender signs new contract

Leicester have announced Christian Fuchs has signed a new three-year deal keeping him at the Premier League champions until 2019.

Fuchs, 30, played an integral part in Leicester’s title-winning campaign last season after joining from Schalke in 2015.

The ex-Austria captain has joined the likes of Wes Morgan, Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Danny Drinkwater, Danny Simpson and Kasper Schmeichel in signing new deals since they lifted the title in May.

“I’m happy,” Fuchs told LCFC TV. “I’m committed to the club. We had a great last season and we’ve also done well so far this season in the Champions League.

“I’m happy here and I’ve had the best time of my career so far here. My name is the Austrian Fox and now I’m staying with the English Foxes.

“Nobody expected what we achieved so far and I think there’s still a lot to come. We built a good foundation and I think we can aim for me. It’s a lot of fun being here and it’s amazing with the fans. Them and the club it self just makes me feel so happy to be here.”

Fuchs’ form has dipped this season but Leicester have made a remarkable start to life in the Champions League. Having won all three of their opening matches in Europe, Leicester have all but secured their passage through to the knockout phase of the competition.

Since the start of last season only three defenders have completed more tackles than Fuchs (117).
