United trio face Old Trafford exit to fund move for young defender

Manchester United will hope to cash in on Chris Smalling, Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo in order to fund a move for Antonio Rudiger, reports the Daily Mail.

The Germany youngster is yet to start a league match for Roma this term as he recovers from injury, though made his first appearance of the season in the midweek 3-1 win over Sassuolo.

Chelsea are also keen on Rudiger, but United will hope a £35m offer will tempt Roma into selling the highly rated centre-back, who can also play right-back.

United need to fund the move by cashing in on players, with Smalling, Blind and Rojo expected to be made available for transfer when the January window opens.

Matteo Darmian, who only move to United last summer, has also failed to impress manager Jose Mourinho and could be up for sale in the New Year.

United have conceded 12 Premier League goals this season, more than any team in the top-7, with Mourinho keen to bolster his defence in January.
