Premier League duo chasing Brandt signature

Manchester City and Liverpool both want to sign Bayer Leverkusen winger Julian Brandt, according to German newspaper Express, via talkSPORT.

Brandt, 20, is regarded as one of the brightest prospects coming out of Germany and already boasts a wealth of experience despite being so young.

Chelsea previously courted the Germany international, but the Premier League giants were beaten to his signature by Leverkusen, who won the race for the former Wolfsburg academy graduate in 2014.

Premier League clubs are not the one teams interested in Brandt, with the German outlet also touting Bayern Munich, Juventus and AC Milan also reportedly tacking the talented Leverkusen youngster.

Staggeringly, any suitors could prize Brandt away from Leverkusen for just £10.25m, when a reported buy out clause becomes active in 2018, 12 months before his contract is due to expire.

However, it’s unlikely Leverkusen will allow the situation to come to that stage, and Brandt’s father has already revealed he expects talks with the Bundesliga club at the end of the season.

“We are always in touch with Bayer,” he told the Express. “I think that we’ll get together in the summer of 2017 at the latest to decide how to go on. I can understand that Leverkusen want clarity.”

Of players aged 21 and under, only RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner has scored as many goals as Brandt in the last three Bundesliga campaigns (both 14).
