Cologne striker Anthony Modeste is on the verge of joining Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian after they improved their offer to €35.7m (£31.6m), reports BILD, via Get German Football.
The Bundesliga outfit only announced last week that they had ended discussions with Quanjian after growing impatient with their dithering in negotiations.
The transfer is now at the stage where only the structure of the payment needs to be ironed out as Cologne want the fee in full and will not accept payments in instalments.
Modeste has emerged as one of the best goalscorers in the Bundesliga in the last two campaigns and his departure would be a record for Cologne, who have never previously sold anyone for more than £13m.
In the last two Bundesliga campaigns only Robert Lewandowski (60) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (56) have scored more goals than Modeste (40).
