Manchester City want £15m for out of favour midfielder

Manchester City will not stand in Fabian Delph’s way of leaving this summer but want £15m for his signature, claims The Sun.

Despite winning a domestic treble, there are a number of players at City weighing up their future at the club after being forced to the fringes under Pep Guardiola, including Delph.

The 29-year-old has played a key role at times in each of City’s last two seasons, often filling in at left-back, but barely featured for the Premier League champions after his red card on Boxing Day.

Delph even reported early for England duty ahead of the UEFA Nations League finals to make up for his lack of football at City.

Gareth Southgate has given players from City, Liverpool and Tottenham extended time off but Delph felt no need to link up with the squad later.

Delph only made five appearances in all competitions for City in 2019, making only one Premier League appearance as a substitute away to Huddersfield in January.

The 29-year-old turned down the chance to leave City during Guardiola’s first summer at the club but now has an eye on first-team football elsewhere.

Delph, who has entered the final 12 months of his current City deal, will not be short of suitors from the Premier League this summer but any club interested will have to stump up £15m.

Returning to Aston Villa may also appeal to Delph but that depends entirely on whether his former club win next week’s Championship play-off final against Derby.

In Guardiola’s three years in England, City have lost just one of 47 league matches that Delph has not started compared to five defeats in the 29 games he has started.
