Championship wonderkid turns down Tottenham to extend Fulham deal
Fulham have announced Ryan Sessegnon has ignored interest from the Premier League and signed a new three-year deal with the club.
Liverpool and Tottenham were both heavily linked with the 17-year-old following his hugely impressive breakthrough campaign for Fulham last season and it was thought he would join Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
However, the teenager has instead decided to snub offers from the Premier League to sign his first professional contract with Fulham and continue his development at Craven Cottage.
“I’m excited to see what’s in front of me and at this club, hopefully we can all push on now,” he told the club’s official website. “Last year I got a lot of opportunities from the Gaffer, and I just want to continue that.”
Sessegnon started 17 games in the Championship last season despite being 16 years old for nearly the entire campaign. While a left-back by trade, the youngster was also used in offensive options on occasion and chipped in with an impressive five goals and three assists for a free-scoring Fulham side.
Furthermore, only Leeds midfielder Ronaldo Vieira (1089) attempted more passes of all teenagers in England’s top two tiers last season than Sessegnon (828).
