Manchester United given boost in hopes of keeping De Gea

Manchester United’s hopes of keeping David de Gea have been given a boost with Paris Saint-Germain now targeting AC Milan starlet Gianluigi Donnarumma, claims The Sun.

The Red Devils are desperate to secure De Gea’s long-term future but are yet to make a breakthrough in contract talks amid interest from PSG.

De Gea’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of next season when he will be free to leave on a free transfer.

United are willing to make De Gea the best paid goalkeeper in the world but have so refused to align the Spain international with Alexis Sanchez as the club’s highest earner on reported £500,000-a-week wages.

De Gea’s representatives have been using PSG’s interest to strengthen their bargaining hand in talks with United but the French giants are reportedly now looking elsewhere.

PSG are locked in talks with Mino Raiola to sign Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt and it has now emerged they are also keen on another of his clients, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The AC Milan goalkeeper is widely described as the best young goalkeeper on the planet and already has four full seasons of first-team football at the age of 20.

It was suggested PSG would test United’s resolve with a £60m bid for De Gea this summer but now they are looking to use that money to prise Donnarumma away from Milan.

PSG’s pursuit of Donnarumma is not only a boost for United’s hopes of keeping De Gea this summer but also in their quest to get the 28-year-old to sign a new long-term deal.

Only Lukasz Fabianski (122) and Neil Etheridge (112) made more saves than De Gea (104) in the Premier League last season.
