Chelsea midfielder pens new five-year deal

Chelsea have announced midfielder Ramires has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal keeping the Brazilian at the club until 2019.

Ramires, 28, joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2010 and has been one of the club’s better performers during their torrid start to the season.

There had been suggestions the Brazil international would leave in the off-season, but the box-to-box midfielder is ‘very happy’ to have committed his best years to Chelsea.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract with Chelsea,” Ramires told the club’s official website.

“My family and I are very happy here in London and in the past five years the club has lifted every major trophy.

“I hope to be an important part of many more successes in the next four years.”
