Madrid dominate La Liga Team of the Week

Real Madrid scored double figures for the first time since 1960 when they thrashed Rayo Vallecano 10-2 on Sunday, but even a performance of this magnitude hasn’t convinced many that Rafa Benitez is the right person for the job.

Gareth Bale, who also has his doubters in Madrid, was the star of the show. The Welshman scored his first hat-trick in over two years and also scored four goals in one match for the first time in his career.

The former Spurs forward also set up the opener for Danilo, meaning he played a direct hand in half of their 10 goals in his 74-minute performance. His four-goal haul also came from just five shots on target.

Madrid dominate La Liga Team of the Week

Bale is joined in the La Liga Team of the Week by four his Madrid teammates. Karim Benzema, who also garnered a perfect WhoScored rating like Bale (10), scored three goals, meaning he now averages a goal every 72 minutes in La Liga this season. The France international has had plenty of off field distractions to contend with in recent months, but they haven’t had any affect on his performances.

James Rodriguez is reportedly unhappy with life under Benitez, but that didn’t prevent him from providing a creative master class, as he registered a hat-trick of assists. Danilo opened the scoring for Madrid in the third minute to register his first goal for the club and also completed more tackles than any other player (5).
